LAFD Honors "Firefighter of the Year"

This prestigious honor is bestowed upon an active member of the Los Angeles Fire Department through a nomination and vote from fellow firefighters. This nomination is then forwarded to the Los Angeles Firefighters Association (LAFFA) and reviewed by their board.

Noon today, at Kyoto Grand Hotel, Captain Harvey proudly received this recognition for the year 2010. This 33 year veteran will be the first African American in the awards 43 year history.

Captain Harvey is widely known for his countless contributions to the Fire Service and the community. This award is given to one whose, "overall career and life exemplified the best qualities of those who are honored to be a part of the fire service".
